Congratulations, Reed, on an amazing journey - your Year of Volunteering. You ended it on a high note, which, of course, is no surprise. Each of your posts about your experiences is just as inspiring as the last, and this is no exception. If we only had more young Winstons! My admiration and thanks to him for his selflessness and passion in helping others.

I've been remiss in keeping up with all of your posts, but you are often on my mind since meeting you in the fall. Each time I pass someone in need in DC, I am reminded of your generosity. I also view people who seem to have more than they need and wonder what their reaction might have been if you had given them $10.

You and Winston are alike in that you are both unassuming. You've done wonderful things for others, but you don't toot your own horns. This morning, I saw the Eve Selis music video in this post from Mostly Bright Ideas, and thought of you. But, now, after reading about Winston, I realize it is appropriate for him, too.

(P.S. Note this from the post: Eve sings in at least six major charity fundraisers every year, and is active in the fight against breast cancer.)

Hello! My coworker offered that I share what I am doing for at our local high school theatre program. We collect used formal gowns and evening dresses from the community and share them with high school students who cannot afford dresses or just want a cheaper option. It makes me feel GREAT! I often buy dresses at thrift stores to donate to the cause. One students told me that she still wears her dress at home, even after prom, because it makes her feel like a princess! :O) Tiffany

Bea, thanks for your comment. I too think it is wonderful. A major reason for this is that they have to meet service hour requirements in order to graduate high school. I recently have heard an increased number of scholarships available for college bound students who have demonstrated strong commitments to volunteering.
